Press Release: BikeFin Honda a perfect start with 1-2-3 on FRONT ROW!
Phakisa Raceway welcomed a very enthusiastic BikeFin Honda Race Team. Many hours were spent rebuilding & and setting up the CBR 600RR’s for Round 4 of the South African Supersport Championship. Since the last showdown in Port Elizabeth where Clinton Seller won, the five week break could not end soon enough. Confidence remained the buzzword throughout the weekend especially after the perfect free practice sessions on Friday.
Phakisa guaranteed an action packed weekend in very cold conditions and got off to a flying start on Friday with fantastic practise sessions for all BikeFin team members. The hard work of the engineers paid off immediately
Qualifying: Brent Harran showing his eagerness on his Honda CBR600RR’s as the youngest member of the squad, had no problem challenging the other two riders. His real potential was shown during Saturdays’ early morning qualifier when he took his maiden pole position for the team with team veteran Lance Isaacs claiming second and Clinton Seller making it a full front row for the BikeFin Honda Racing team split only by two hundreds of a second from 1st to 3rd .
Race 1: The hopes were high for the team as they headed for the first heat. Brent Harran and Clint Seller both had a blistering start, leading the field for the first couple of laps. Lance Isaacs missed his start with a clutch grabbing off the line but he quickly worked his way up the field to chase the leading BikeFin Honda Racing team members. Due to a quickly degrading front tire, Brent Harran, who lead the race, lost the front end in the slowest apex of the track. He managed to climb back on the damaged bike to join the rest of the field. Clint Seller put all his talent on the line and finished second. Lance fought hard to take 4th place on the final turn. Sandro Carvalho coming home in 14th after some suspension problems plagued hm.
Race 2: 4 positive riders lined up for the second heat and had a much more consistent start for all the team members. Young gun Brent Harran had a tough battle out in the front and in the end finished in a solid second only one hundreds of a second to first. Clinton Seller in fourth and Lance Isaacs came home in seventh. The tyre rule played against the team for the weekend as riders manipulated the tyre rule system BUT the next event this will be changed to be just as it was initially intended to read. Overall results places BikeFin Honda’s Clinton Seller 2nd, missing first by only 1 second, Lance Isaacs 6th and due to the unfortunate mishap in race 1, Brent Harran 17th.
Although we would’ve wanted the same results on race day as practise, the team is in good spirit and are looking forward to the next race in August at the Aldo Scribante raceway in Port Elizabeth
